Artillery Metal Wire Lace
The pattern became popular with the
British Army in the 1740s, and soon became the standard pattern braid
for the Royal Artillery. Today it is used by almost every
Artillery unit in the British Commonwealth. This
is gilt metal wire lace and therefore is of the highest of quality.
Theatre have grown to love the richness of the pattern of lace on stage
under the lights.

Gold Bias and Stand (B/S) Metal Wire Lace.
This metal wire lace is used by Guards Regiments especially for Drum
major tunics (see top right image). Historically we was also used by the Royal Navy in
the 18th century and as an officer's lace for a number of units in the
Seven Years War. Today many Royal regiments in the Commonwealth
have adopted this pattern as well. You can see this exact lace on
Parliament Hill with the Ceremonial Guard. See an

STUDY: Admiral Rodney, 1791 (NMM)
For a brief time in the late 18th century (1787-1795) the Royal Navy
adopted
the Bias and Stand pattern of Lace. This portrait shows three
sizes of this braid in use: 1/2 on part of the cuff, 3/4 for the loops,
and 1 inch wide
for the framing. Use of various widths gives the garment a depth, or
complexity to the eye. A noble elegance is the result.
